Introduction :
Hello! I am Miral Joshi. A B.A English Literature student at Government Arts College Talaja.As a mentor in peer tutoring, I had the opportunity to teach two fascinating topics: Translation in Ancient India and Types of Translation. In this blog, I'll share my experience of teaching these topics and the activities I used to engage my students.
Translation in Ancient India
To teach Translation in Ancient India, I used a variety of activities to make the topic engaging and interactive. Some of the activities I used include:
•Debate
I divided the students into groups and them to debate on the importance of translation in ancient India. This activity helped students to think critically and understand the significance of translation in ancient Indian culture.
•Quiz:
I prepared a quiz to test the students' knowledge on translation in ancient India. The quiz included questions on the history of translation, the role of translation in ancient Indian literature, and the challenges of translating ancient Indian texts.
•Drawing a Chart:
I asked the students to draw a chart illustrating the process of translation in ancient India. This activity helped students to visualize the steps involved in translation and understand the complexities of the process.
•Explain:
I explain the concept of translation in ancient India. This activity helped students to think critically and articulate their thoughts clearly.
Types of Translation
To teach Types of Translation, I explained the different types of translation, including literary, technical, and cultural translation. I also asked the students questions to test their understanding of the topic, such as:
- What is the difference between literary and technical translation?
- How does cultural translation differ from other types of translation?
- Can you give an example of a situation where cultural translation is necessary?
My Experience
Teaching Translation in Ancient India and Types of Translation was a rewarding experience for me. I learned that using interactive activities and asking thought-provoking questions can help students to engage with the topic and understand it better. I also realized that translation is a complex process that requires a deep understanding of the source and target languages, as well as the cultural context in which the translation is taking place. Overall, my experience as a mentor taught me the importance of making learning fun and interactive, and I look forward to applying these principles in my future teaching endeavors.
